Sunrise Kachina Pottery Jar by Lawrence Namoki
Lawrence Namoki is well known among Kachina carvers and even better known for his unique, one-of-a-kind pottery jars. In the Hopi tradition, Namoki uses only tribal designs and figurals in his pottery work. This jar, ca.1990, exemplifies the incredible clay carving skills Namoki brought to his pottery. A fully designed body, both hemispheres sport a BAS RELIEF seldom found in Hopi pottery work. Namoki includes a bold SUN rising among the pueblo villages. Carved Mudhead and Yellow Corn Maiden with Corn stalks are likewise depicted. Measures 3.5 x "4" . . . A masterpiece!
